I in a family business grew. My father had a career as a baker, then aged 50, decided to buy a hotel. My father grew up in the 1940s and had little education, but this fact never ceased to do him what he wanted. He continued, only to learn. My two older brothers also worked in two areas - more my father's decision as their -. But my mother insisted that I be able to make this choice for me
The companies are all about dreams, but my father not to his dream of a baker or owning a bakery. He was taught baking by his brothers, and he was expected to work in this trade to keep himself and his family financially secure. I never considered the fact that my father's dream was a businessman instead of a worker to be, and to own a hotel. He was not very successful bakery ... he went bankrupt three times. However, he was a successful businessman; he turned the hotel in two, and many other companies acquired before he passed away in his mid-80s. I think his success has been achieved, because it in itself had such a strong faith and what he wanted to achieve.
My First Business
I was lucky, High School graduated have, and have attended two years UBC. I later took courses in apparel design and started a small line of clothing manufacture. I did not know that I did exactly what my father had done. Instead of looking for a job ... I was creating my own business.
When I had my own shop on opening a chat with my father, he did not seem surprised, and in fact, I remember sitting with him at lunch, and to write it figures on a napkin as he asked me questions about sales, overhead, and the staff. We agreed that he would sign a loan for me, and before I knew it, I was in my new retail space, the windows papered over and sets a "OPENING SOON" sign on the door. At that time I knew I loved clothing design, and I was pretty sure I'd like a small retail shop running.
, if you know that it is time for a change
Over time, my business and I grew and changed. I worked very hard, and never started the burden home feeling, and rarely see my husband. I was so busy, my business running, I felt I had no choice but to carry on. I was to open in the middle of my second position, when my mother became ill, and died after a short time.
One of the things that my mother and father argued about ever, was work-life "balance". She wanted him to work less and spend more time with the family. When she died, I realized that I had lost that balance. I decided my stores to both close and make a change. I was 46 years old, and for more than 17 years had my company. It was time to figure out what I wanted to do next. I started writing, I began to read, I began taking courses and I started cooking. I recently began workshops on social media lessons ... and I'm surprised how much I enjoy them!
my dad's legacy
waxes with a family up taught me how to turn what I love to do for a business. My father taught me to be not afraid of change, and that the opportunities made available as limitless as your ability to learn through your own business to continue.
I find my way in the new digital world, while continuing my experience to use to help others with their journey. I recently mentored an extremely bright and capable young woman in her shop needs a few practical tips on stockpile management. In our second meeting, we have discovered that their first job tables had at one of my father's restaurants bussing! Amazing to think that my father may in us both output company is one of the factors might have been. I like to think that I understand this woman another piece of their particular business Puzzle helped ... just like my father did when he showed me how life could be, as an entrepreneur.
