General Rick Hillier (Ret.) is a well-known veteran, business coach and entrepreneur. In many of his presentations, General Hillier talks about how the Canadian Forces involved supported him as a leader, and in his progression from solid to entrepreneurs.
Achieving missions against the rules
He stated that the military no longer young servicemen and women teach to follow rules, instead they are taught to be successful in achieving missions. And these tasks can only be achieved by creating a strategy. So what better starting point, it is for an entrepreneur as someone who knows the importance of the strategy already reach the end goal?
General Hillier, he applied what he learned to create a profitable career in the public domain in the military, to create his own station called the Inspiration Series. In the last four years he has to speak with ExxonMobil, TELUS, Rogers Communications, TD Bank, American Express, Gowlings, KPMG and many other organizations working on the importance of leadership through tough times.
He describes how entrepreneurship is often thought of as a solo sport - the image of the solitary person for long hours at a desk working to make things happen. "But it need not be so," he says. "You can achieve much more by working as a team. Just look at the great Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak together they formed one of the most profitable companies in the world." For him, this is a shining example of the importance of teamwork.
